I have a confession to make. Not long ago when I had a couple pennies in my pocket I used to throw them away. (Gasp!) I know, at least throw them in a fountain, right? I just figured there's not much you can buy with pennies so you might as well clean up by tossing them. Well, I've woken up over the past year or so. In fact, now I'm going out of my way to go pick up a penny or two across the room.
Here's my rationale. God has entrusted us to be good, responsible stewards of everything we are "borrowing" here on earth. Money is a biggie. It's God's economy and He has trusted us with some of it. We need to be responsible with it. So now when I come across a penny, nickel, dime, etc, I grab it so that I can manage it accordingly. That's being diligent. When a believer grabs it, it's immediately activated into Kingdom currency, not the world's. -A responsibility indeed.
God tests us with little amounts before He trusts us with more (Luke 16:10). Sometimes we don't learn the lesson and squander it. I know I have at times. The current season I'm in, however, God is teaching me to keep close tabs of money like never before. This means bending over (sometimes knocking over!) to grab wayward coins.

A penny for your thoughts? huh, huh? Good one! :)
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother always told me if you watch your pennies your dollars will take care of themselves. I have never passed by a penny on the ground whether it was heads or tails.
