I really enjoy the old crackling microphone sound as it reverberates off the walls. I picture a cozy church on a cold winter night with folks huddled in hanging on his words. I find his voice a steady comfort. (My grandfather was a Methodist minister and I wonder how he sounded. I don't recall hearing much of his sermons). I have read one of Tozer's books before (Pursuit of God) but this is the first time I've heard him speak. He had a gift of capturing what the Lord was impressing upon his heart with the arrangement of words. Beautiful and powerful. Here is one of his quotes stock full of wisdom:
"It will cost something to walk slow in the parade of the ages, while excited men of time rush about confusing motion with progress. But it will pay in the long run and the true Christian is not much interested in anything short of that." Tozer, Alliance Weekly magazine, 1950.
Wow. So true. I get a reassuring visual of a wise, gray haired man steadily plotting his God-given course, not just going with the crowd. Another visual relates to running and finding that steady marathon pace, not an all out sprint. I love how he says "confusing motion with progress." I can be so guilty of confusing motion with progress. Go, go, go. -Thinking I'm doing important stuff for the Lord. But have I even stopped to ask Him what's important? Or am I just keeping a busy schedule to avoid hearing from Him.
