Basking in Grace

Ahhhhh....Basking in the sunshine.  Blue skies, light breeze, and warm sunshine.  It feels great.  "This is the life," I think as I take it all in.  Yet so often I am oblivious to these simple pleasures.  When I allow thoughts of worry and my "to-do list" to take over I am blind to the simple things in life that give me pleasure.  They are choked out.  I think this is the essence of what Jesus is telling us when He says "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke...for my yoke is easy and my burden is light."  -Matthew 11:28-30.  Ahhhh.  Can't you just feel the load being lifted?

Similarly, all too often we don't realize how much grace He lavishes upon us.  We get so caught up in our own pursuits and concerns that we forget to come to Him.  It really is by His grace that we come to Him.  It's by His grace that we are reminded who is in control and where to cast our worries.  In fact, everything is by His grace.  Another breath, my ability to see the blue sky, hearing the birds.  My thoughts, speech, and actions are all a result of God's grace.  It's all by His grace.  Today I am basking in it and saying "thank you."
